| Hello [firstname],
Welcome to the February edition of Flawless Compliance. I’m
still getting the final pieces together on my new newsletter, which
will be targeted at helping executives turn chaotic information
into profitable wisdom. Please look for that soon.
This Saturday, I woke up to some horrible news. As you probably
know by now, Chile experienced a massive earthquake, registering
8.8 on the Richter scale. What most people don’t realize is
that this is about 500 times more powerful than the quake we just
experienced in Haiti.
Although my heart goes out to the reported 700 killed in Chile,
and the countless others injured, my concern was of a more personal
nature. As some of you know, part of my family including my Mom
lives in Hawaii. After learning about the tsunami warning Saturday
morning, I called Mom’s residence, and she didn’t answer—not
a good sign. I started to become very worried, then called her cell
phone—she answered.
The area where she lives in Maui was evacuated. They were told
waves as high as 9 feet might roll through. Mom quickly moved valuables
and perishables to the second floor, than left as instructed. When
I called her, she had already relocated to higher ground with some
friends. All we could do was wait.
Fortunately, the tides didn’t come in quite as expected,
and within a few hours, Mom was home safe and sound. I don’t
remember the last time I was that fearful for my family. I'm so
grateful nothing happened. Thank you to everybody who expressed
concerns, I appreciate your thoughts.
So, let’s go on to the news. In this issue, Toyota’s
in the spotlight. We’ll take a look at what Toyota can do,
if anything, to restore its image. Also, in Life’s Gag Reel,
we’ll see what we can learn from a panda that gets a helping
hand.
Thanks for your interest, and if you have something you’d
like to say or a question you’d like to ask, please feel free
to send me a note, or post a comment on the blog.
Best Wishes,
