Issue No. 28, April 2010

Hello [firstname],

Welcome to the April 2010 edition of Flawless Compliance. I hope you’re enjoying this year’s new format. By now you’ve had a few issues to get used to it, so I’m wondering what your thoughts are. If you have any feedback, good or bad, please let me know.

It’s been a fun and interesting month. With the majority of my project work at PayPal coming to a close, I’ve found myself with more opportunity to reconnect with some people I haven’t heard from in a while. It’s always fun to hear what people are doing these days, and reminisce about the past. With the weather being so nice, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed taking a short break, but now it’s time gear up for the next set of projects. I have some exciting opportunities on the short-term horizon, but I’m still exploring options, so if you know of someone who could benefit from the types of services I deliver, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Last month, I mentioned my upcoming bestseller, and the author accountability group that’s helping me stay on track. I’m very pleased to announce that massive progress has been made on my book proposal. The working title of the book is “Strategy by Numbers: How to Drive Strategy with Information,” a book that shows executive leaders and strategists how to leverage information to fortify their strategic formulation and implementation. Thanks to my accountability group, the proposal is nearly done! The only thing left to do is write my sample chapter, and send it off to an agent. Having one or more people hold you accountable for something can really be the deciding factor on whether or not you accomplish your goals. Think about this as you reflect on those New Year’s resolutions that never really took hold.

Now, on to the stories. This month, we’re taking a deep dive on the impacts of this horrible oil rig accident in the Gulf Coast. Also, CEO Lloyd Blankfein finds himself in the soup with the US Senate—sure Lloyd, you and your boys weren’t doing anything wrong!

Hope you enjoy. Of course if you have any comments, please let me know.

Best Wishes,

The Cost of Slipping Up

Gulf Coast Oil Disaster Wreaks Havoc

What’s the price for not being careful? If you’re lucky, it’s negligible; otherwise, it’s anywhere from significant to mind-blowing. In the recent gulf coast oil spill catastrophe, it’s safe to say nobody was lucky, we’ve already flown past significant, and we’re quickly approaching mind-blowing.

The trouble started on Tuesday, April 20 when, 50 miles off the coast of Louisiana, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded, sending 126 workers into a panic for their lives. 11 were killed, and the remaining, altered for life...Read More>>

Goldman Gets Sacked

Lloyd Blankfein Justifies Unethical Behavior

What’s in a name? That which we call a crappy deal, by any other name would smell as foul.

How do I not put Lloyd Blankfein, the amusing CEO of Goldman Sachs, in the soup this month? He’s spent so much time in the White House over the last couple of years, he might as well just get a room there.

Don’t you love those Senate firing lines? Public interrogations like this are not only entertaining, but they’re healthy. Like many others, I’ve developed a real rancid taste for these bankers that use ostensible complexity as a cloak for greedy and dishonest behavior...Read More>>
